Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is a rapidly growing research university located on the Gulf of Mexico overlooking Corpus Christi Bay. Our unique location provides many opportunities for marine-related research including proximity to extensive bays and estuaries along the Gulf of Mexico.

The Department of Life Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Marine Microbial Ecology. Possible research areas include, but are not limited to: role of microbes in aquatic food webs and biogeochemical cycling, microbial pathogens, microbial diversity or microbial physiological ecology. This position will further expand and complement our M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Marine Biology ( http://www.marinebiology.tamucc.edu), and also contribute to our Coastal and Marine System Science Ph.D. program ( http://cmss.tamucc.edu/). The preferred start date is September 1, 2014. A competitive startup package and research lab space will accompany this position.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in marine science, oceanography, biology or closely related discipline. Postdoctoral experience is preferred, but not required. Applications are particularly encouraged from individuals with active, federally-funded research programs and strong external collaborations who can take advantage of our modern research laboratories and equipment, including those associated with our molecular, microscopy and marine analytical facilities.

Job Duties: Job Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program, supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses including Microbial Ecology, but may also design his/her own specialty courses. Typical teaching load for Marine Biology program Ph.D. faculty is 3 courses per academic year. May involve night, weekend, and electronic course delivery.
